When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I was just about to graduate from school and was working as a spin and Pilates instructor. I was planning on doing a masters and or Phd in Renaissance and Baroque art but when the world locked down, I didn’t have a clear path.
I had nothing but time on my hands and my passion for fitness and health lead me to start researching different wellness trends to see if there was a way I could be boosting my immunity and bettering my overall health during such an uncertain time. That’s how I found adaptogens and nootropics.
I started trying them in different forms and found that they really helped me feel better, more clear, and like an elevated version of my self.
But, there were a few major things that I had noticed, and didn't exactly like, when I was trying out different adaptogenic products. The first was that most products had a very strong and earthy flavor profile to them that often left a funky aftertaste in my mouth. The second was that most of these products came wrapped in single-use plastic packaging. For someone who likes to be mindful of how much waste I'm creating - this made me cringe.
I knew that there had to be a way to consume adaptogens without the dreadful taste and in a way that was more environmentally friendly. That's when tea came to mind. "What if there was a way to create adaptogen teas that came in compostable tea bags?" The idea of infusing teas with adaptogens seemed like a great way to get all of the benefits of the herbs and mushrooms but with a more pleasant experience.
So I got to work. 10 months later I had created adaptogenic teas in fully compostable packaging. To me, the best part about creating steep & mellow was that I got to infuse my own personal values into the brand to create something that went beyond 'just tea.'
However, this is only just the beginning. As we look into the future, we have some really exciting plans for steep & mellow that will take this brand to new heights. I am so grateful to be surrounded by the BEST people and I cannot wait to share what's around the corner with you all. ❤️
